In 2013 1to1 incorporated the University of Johannesburg’s undergraduate department (with
Denver Hendricks, Jabu Makhubu and Yusuf Chothria) with the University of Pretoria post-graduate Architecture (with Carin Combrinck) students focusing the project on space for children – who had been a major cause for most of the damages to Slovo Hall since 2010.

Students worked with the various community organizations to develop a playground strategy that would be robust and work with the way the children use space currently. The proposal looked closely at safety and durability and is still under construction.

Ama Ndlovu explores the connections of culture, ecology, and imagination.

Her work combines ancestral knowledge with visions of the planetary future, examining how Black perspectives can transform how we see our world and what lies ahead.
